What we're working on right now

Bootstrapping straight through to finished hardware.

  1. Late Feb 2026Chapter 1

    It started as a hackathon.

    We built the ClearZone proof of concept in 48 hours at a hackathon in late February. We won this hackaathon with over £1000 of prizes awarded to us.

    It worked on the first day, and by the demo it was already pulling a crowd. We left the venue with a working device and the conviction that this was a company, not a weekend project.

  2. Late Feb 2026Chapter 2

    The team formed around it.

    Within days the three of us aligned on roles and committed to the project full time.

    Haider took CEO on software, AI, and integration. Tymur took CTO on electronics, PCB, and compliance. Nikita took CPO on mechanical and product design. No overlap, no contested decisions, and every part of the device has a clear owner.

  3. Early March 2026Chapter 3

    Case iterations, and the software push.

    We ran the case through rapid printed iterations, tightening the fit, dropping the part count, and finding the silhouette the production case would inherit.

    In parallel, the deep software push kicked off. The Android MVP was driven to a stable build, and work began on our custom algorithm for locking the phone, tracking its position, and collecting the usage data the product runs on. UI and UX iteration on the app ran alongside every print.

  4. Mid March 2026Chapter 4

    FocusField became ClearZone.

    We retired the FocusField name in favour of ClearZone, and finalised the brand identity, voice, and aesthetic.

    A short, sharp name. A confident, outcome-focused voice. The visual system the rest of this site, the device, and the packaging are now built on.

  5. Late March 2026Chapter 5

    The site went live.

    The marketing site went live and the waitlist opened the same day.

    Built and shipped on Framer with Formspark capturing sign-ups. The landing page told the ClearZone story in under ninety seconds.

  6. Late March 2026Chapter 6

    200 sign-ups in 24 hours.

    The waitlist crossed 200 sign-ups in the first day, with no paid distribution.

    First proof that the proposition lands without explanation. The same day, in-house PCB design began on what would become version one.

  7. Early April 2026Chapter 7

    First cheque.

    We closed a £1.5K SEIS angel investment from Luqman, introduced by Amir.

    Until this cheque the app had been Android-only. Luqman's investment unlocked iOS development, expanded print capacity, and funded the first PCB manufacturing run.

  8. Early April 2026Chapter 8

    PCB v1: a platform for software speed.

    PCB v1 was deliberately built from off-the-shelf components, not custom silicon. The goal was a stable hardware base that let the software move at full speed while the custom board was being designed in parallel.

    Throughout March and April we kept refining our custom algorithm: locking the phone, calculating its position, and collecting the usage data the product is built on. The off-the-shelf board meant the software loop never had to wait on hardware.

  9. Mid April 2026Chapter 9

    PCB v2: fully custom.

    PCB v2 was the first board designed from the ground up to ClearZone's exact requirements, nothing more, nothing less. Smaller footprint, better performance, lower bill of materials.

    It worked end to end on the first bring-up, and battery life was validated to two full weeks of real-use runtime. Compliance had been built into development from day one, and the Self Declaration of Conformity is being written on the back of this board.

  10. Mid April 2026Chapter 10

    Algorithm finalised, beta out, Ltd incorporated.

    By mid April the algorithm was finalised. Our custom protocol for locking the phone, calculating its position, and collecting usage data was running reliably enough to put in users' hands.

    The first beta units went out and started returning real-world data. iOS development was now well underway alongside the Android build, and we incorporated as ClearZone Ltd in the UK.

  11. Late April 2026Chapter 11

    Production-grade printers online.

    Higher-quality printers came online in-house, lifting case finish to a level we are happy to ship.

    On the back of that, the mechanical design was frozen. The case the production batch is being printed from is the case customers will receive.

  12. Late April 2026Chapter 12

    PCB v3 ordered, bootstrapped.

    We bootstrapped the order of PCB v3, the final production design.

    v2 had already cut size, lifted performance, and reduced cost. v3 trims the bill of materials further on top of the validated v2 base, taking the board to its production cost target.

  13. Early May 2026Chapter 13

    The first batch of premium cases.

    The founders bootstrapped £5K across April and May, and put it into carbon fibre and multi-colour 3D printers.

    The first batch of production-grade cases is now coming off those printers, stacked on the bench and reading "Do something GREAT".

  14. Early May 2026Chapter 14

    YC application in, VCs on the line.

    We submitted our Y Combinator application and applied to multiple VC firms in parallel. Conversations are already in motion with a handful of them.

    We have come a long way. A 48-hour hackathon build is now a working product, with finalised custom hardware, a locked-in algorithm, beta units in users' hands, and production cases coming off our own printers. The pitch writes itself.

  15. May 2026Chapter 15

    £70K round and Muslim Tech Fest.

    The final hardware version is working end to end across both phones, both PCBs, and the production case.

    We are in active negotiation with Strand Ventures for £70K at 4% equity, and we have been selected to showcase ClearZone at Muslim Tech Fest (introduced by Abdullah).

What we beat

The problems that could have ended us.

PCB cost
Too expensive on v1 and v2. Solved in v3 through component re-selection.
Battery life
Insufficient on v1. Fixed in v2, now two weeks.
iOS development capacity
Until Luqman's cheque the app was Android-only. The investment unlocked iOS development in parallel.
Custom locking and positioning algorithm
Refined across March and April on the off-the-shelf v1 hardware. Custom protocols for locking the phone, calculating position, and collecting data. Locked in by mid April.
CE certification
The single thing most likely to kill us, and the reason we raised. Compliance was built into development from day one. The Self Declaration of Conformity is being written now, covering RED, RoHS, WEEE, GPSR, and Cyber Resilience Act readiness.
